UPDATE I caught the influenza virus going around, I have been down for 3 days now. I am starting to show signs of life and will get back on this stuff soon. I guess I can call this post The Saga of Not Fade Away. In a previous post, I talked about how much I liked Buddy Holly when I was young. I know I was around 11 or 12 years old when I bought his first record. I have 4 or 5 of his albums in storage, the original vinyl records. Anyway, I decided to just take a crack at Not Fade Away. Most of the track is one take stuff, which gives it a raw edge. It's not perfection. Perfection can make things sterile and even deprive the track of some soul. I have it finished, and it's acceptable as it is with what I have done. I am still going to give AC Myles a shot at this. I think if he gets it right, it can elevate the track even more. For now, I am giving you access to the current version with a link to my off the grid YouTube channel for fans only. The Link is below. If AC works out, I will update the version and put it on my normal YouTube channel and toss it into rotation on my show on Podomatic. Over time, I accumulate songs, and that's when I may or may not release them to the public. I already have "Something Big," in the can. It's a good one. Click link below. Version one, "Not Fade Away." www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBg9gf0lzB8&feature=youtu.be Buddy Holly died in a plane crash in 1959. He was only 22 years old.

The Song can be heard on the home page of my website. Scroll to the bottom and just click play. I might still have AC Myles add in some lead guitar work, but it's not bad as it is. There will be a new YouTube Video to go with this as well. The core of it is all ready complete. I say many times that I never know when a song is gonna come to me. Last night I was messin in my studio and out of the blue Not Fade Away just popped into my head. I dig the chord structure and I went for it with my Yamaha F 450 Acoustic. The version I leaned more on was the Buddy Holly one from around 1957 or so. I am sure you are well aware that the Stones did their take on it as well and ultimately it became more popular. So my version might be a blend of the two, but more heavy on the Holly version. I only have it about 60% complete, but i like the hot raw sound I am getting. I did all the guitar work in one take and vocals as well. So in a sense, It has a live vibe to it. Will continue to work on it today some and see where it goes. If you liked "Something Big," and the vibe that track has, you will dig this one too, it is even rawer. Workin on "Not Fade Away." Very happy with my acoustic rhythm track, and I laid a mean bass line down with it too. No conga's yet, that is to come later. Buddy Holly and the Crickets. One of my early influences.
Made it back from a trip out to Hawaiian Islands to just chill out and recharge. Mission Accomplished. Will slowly work myself back into the music. I just did a new "Human's Show," on Podomatic so make sure to go check that out. Hope all has been well with all of you! This Sign is on the patio at the Mixed Plate in Lahaina Traditional Hawaiian Food Fleming Beach right outside Napili. It's off the beaten path and tourist don't seem to want to hang here. It's great. Mama's Fish House over on the North Shore just out of Paia. Absolutely killer local food. Very pricey but worth the stop.
Things are in a bit of a lull now. I just finished "Something Big," a track I was initially just messin around with in my home studio, but it caught fire and I ended up finishing and bringing in AC Myles to put a searing lead on it. I just play it on my shows on Podomatic, but that's it for now. It's possible I will release it as a single in late summer. I am getting ready to go on a little vacation to one of those islands out in the Pacific. It's a good place to recharge and restore. So things will go on a little hiatus here. Keep it rockin while I am gone and just know how much I appreciate all of your support. Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes.
Most of you know I put a Tom Petty song on that last release I did called, "Let Yourself Go." It was from the Mojo release a few years back. I got to just messin with another Tom Petty song the other day called, "Something Big." It's from his record, Hard Promises released in 1981. I have always dug the track. I started with my acoustic guitar and just stayed with it. I made the decision to just let it drive the track. I added in some bass and conga's and I slipped in my strat starting on the second verse and used it for subtle driving rhythm. It's barely noticible, but listen good and it's there. I sent the track to my friend AC Myles who tossed in a searing tasty electric guitar lead. This tied the track together and boom, that was it. So here ya go. Click the link and check it out. No plans to release, this was just having fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9q3JU1apcfs Working on Something Big.
